The 2007 Mount Marty College Cross-Country team will look forward to a promising new beginning with an inspirational head coach.
The Lancers, who will be led by Randy Fisher, believe that their hard work will help to bridge the gap between today’s struggles and the tomorrow’s achievements.
Fisher will begin his tenure as Mount Marty’s cross country head coach after serving two years as an assistant coach with Dakota State University and five years as a head coach at two different high schools.
“Right now cross-country is a priority,” Fisher said. “We are going to try and rebuild this program in order to help it to be successful throughout the upcoming years.”
As for this year, the Lancer’s will focus on fielding a competitive girls’ team that will rely on some of their veteran runners to find their way to the front of the pack.
This, in large part, will be up to top returners Megan O’ Grady (So.), Jessica Albers (Jr.), Britteny Williams (Sr.), and Ashley Solem (So.).
O’ Grady is expected to lead all Lancers runners as she is coming off a solid track season in which she earned a fourth place finish in the 10,000 meter run at the Great Plains Athletic Conference Championships last spring.
Also running will be Laura Condon (Jr.), Theresa Condon (So.), Stephanie Schultz (Fr.), and Amber Le Zuerlin (Fr.). Both the Condons and Schultz also participate in women’s soccer. They will begin running after their season has reached its end.
“The only thing I can ask of our girls is to do the best they can,” Fisher said. “We are looking to improve and have a solid recruiting season.”
The Lancers start will start their season at the University of South Dakota Invitational in Vermillion on Saturday Sept. 8.
